The City Manager, Mr Kagiso Lerutla, revisited the City Parks Depot in Alberton on Thursday, 19 February, as part of his flagship initiative, Fixing the Frontline.

During his return visit, Alberton staff expressed their appreciation, noting that the City Manager had kept his promise to provide feedback.

“It is encouraging that the city manager visited our depot and came back as promised to give us feedback. He listened to our concerns and demonstrated that he is addressing them which is impressive,” said Collin Motlhabane.

The Mr Lerutla was accompanied by senior management, including: Mr Phakamile Mbengashe (HOD: Communications, Marketing and Tourism), Ms Lesego Sentsho (HOD: Service Delivery Coordination), and Dr Tsholofelo Koopedi (Caretaker HOD: Community Safety).

Together, they shared feedback and outlined commitments to address staff needs, including:

Delivery of Protective Personal Equipment (PPE) to all depot staff;

The procurement of secondary PPEs is also underway;

Advertising of critical positions will be done in the next couple of weeks, and some are already advertised.

Speaking on advertisement of posts, Mr Lerutla said: “For the sake of boosting staff morale it is important that we prioritise this process and start with recruiting from internally because studies have proven that people get discouraged when they are overlooked and subsequently that affects service delivery.”

Since its launch, the Fixing the Frontline programme has become a highlight for depot staff. These feedback sessions have bridged the gap between leadership and staff, ensuring that decisions are informed by real, on-the-ground challenges. The sole purpose is to deliver quality services to the residents of Ekurhuleni.
