The City of Ekurhuleni welcomes the introduction of a long-acting HIV prevention injection, Lenacapavir, that is now available at selected public healthcare facilities across the city.
Lenacapavir offers an innovative HIV prevention option, providing up to six months of protection with a single injection, making it easier for individuals at risk of HIV infection to access effective prevention services.
The rollout of Lenacapavir forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen HIV prevention programmes and support communities in reducing new HIV infections.
Residents are encouraged to visit participating clinics to learn more about Lenacapavir and determine whether it is suitable for them.
An HIV test is required before commencing treatment.

The City of Ekurhuleni encourages residents to adhere to the national HIV prevention strategy which comprises of, among others, bio-medical interventions such as long-lasting injectables like Lenacapavir, oral pre-exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis; and behavioural choices such as consistent use of condoms.
The availability of Lenacapavir at selected clinics provides another important tool in the fight against HIV and supports efforts to build healthier communities.
