The historic plans to get the municipality back on its feet have been unveiled by Executive Mayor Alderman Nkosindiphile Xhakaza.
On Friday, 22 May 2026, scores of investors and developers were invited to the Airports Company of SA International Indaba Conference Centre in Kempton Park to unpack all the opportunities available in the region. The resounding turnout to the gathering demonstrated the hunger of the private sector to turn around the economic fortunes of the central business districts across the municipality.
In his message to the gathering, the Executive Mayor revealed that Council has approved 18 precinct programs, including CBDs rebirth, and properties or land readily available to be leased and or utilised by private sector. Preparations have been made and agreed to by the Council to improve the living conditions of locals and permanently improve the economy of Ekurhuleni.
“We are taking this direction to translate our vision of resuscitating CBDs into reality. This serves as a long-term blueprint guiding how we grow, integrate and modernise our urban form. As a municipality we cannot be able to execute this mammoth task alone, hence we have opened our doors to working with private sector for the success of our communities,” said Mayor Xhakaza.
The Executive Mayor will soon be taking the program on a roadshow across the municipality, directly talking to different communities and interested stakeholders about the great opportunities available for growth as part of ensuring that everyone gets an equal opportunity.
