Hermanus Library has done it again, taking home Public Library of the Year as well as Best Friends of the Public Library at the Western Cape Cultural Affairs Awards in Cape Town on 9 September 2026.
Hawston Library also received recognition, with its library service honoured with an award for Community Impact through Outreach .
Lizé Richter of Hermanus Library and Belinda May from Hawston Library were presented with the certificates at the awards ceremony and were joined by a jubilant Overstrand Executive Mayor, Alderman Archie Klaas, Aron Gcotyelwa from the Community Services Directorate and MMC for Community Services, Councillor Ronald Nutt.
Mayor Klaas, an avid reader and lover of a good book, said the awards are a reflection of the work being done across the Overstrand library network.
“While we are celebrating a double win for Hermanus and Hawston tonight, this is a proud moment for all our libraries and staff. Our teams work closely together, sharing ideas and running joint programmes that benefit communities across Overstrand.”
