MAYOR LEADS PUSH FOR MORE ELECTRICITY CAPACITY

Wesselton Extension 7, 06 October 2026 -

Executive Mayor Alderwoman M.P. Nkosi officially handed over the Ermelo North Bulk Electrical Infrastructure Upgrade Project to the appointed contractor on Tuesday, 6 October 2026. This marked the start of work to strengthen electricity infrastructure in the northern part of Ermelo.

The project will upgrade key infrastructure at the 88kV Switching Station and Wesselton Extension 7 Substation to accommodate growing demand as Ermelo continues to expand.

"Ermelo is growing, and with that growth comes a greater need for reliable and sufficient electricity infrastructure. We cannot wait for the demand to outgrow our existing network before we act.

This project is about preparing our infrastructure for the needs of our communities today and the growth we expect in the years ahead," said the Mayor.

The project will also create work opportunities during its first phase, with opportunities for local SMMEs to participate in various aspects of the work.
