The City of Ekurhuleni wishes to inform residents and businesses that the recently approved municipal tariffs for the 2026/27 financial year are now applicable with effect from 1 July 2026 .
The tariff adjustments form part of the city’s annual budget of R70.9 billion, which was approved by council last month . The budget is aimed at strengthening service delivery, improving infrastructure maintenance, supporting the city’s financial sustainability, and ensuring that quality and sustainable essential municipal services continue to be provided to communities and businesses across Ekurhuleni.
The City views the budget as a reflection of the City’s commitments and priorities towards building a sustainable and inclusive region.
Following public consultation and careful consideration of affordability concerns raised during this process, the city concluded on the following tariff increases:
• Property rates: 1.5%;
• Water: 11%;
• Sanitation: 8.35%;
• Refuse removal: 3.4% for both domestic and business customers;
• Burial and cemetery tariffs: 0% for City of Ekurhuleni residents and 3.4% for non-residents; and
• Electricity: 8.76% (Increase aligned to the NERSA-approved tariff guidelines)
The City remains mindful of the financial pressures faced by households and businesses. For this reason, tariff increases have been kept as balanced as possible while still enabling the municipality to maintain and improve critical infrastructure.
The city further encourages qualifying residents to apply for available indigent support and debt rehabilitation incentives, where applicable.
Businesses and residents are also urged to continue paying for municipal services, as revenue generated remains a cornerstone to sustaining service delivery and maintaining the city’s financial health position.
The City remains committed to ensuring that public resources are utilised responsibly and effectively. The adoption of the 2026/27 Budget marks the beginning of a new phase of implementation, with a focus on improved service delivery, accountability, and building an Ekurhuleni that works for all.
