uMshwathi Local Municipality hosted a Women’s Dialogue Event on 25 August 2026, Cluster 1 in Ward 14, bringing together women, community leaders, government departments and key stakeholders to promote women’s empowerment, awareness and access to support services.
Held under the theme “Empowered Women Empower the Nation,” the programme created a platform for women to engage with various departments and organisations on issues affecting their daily lives and communities.
The programme was directed by Mrs Malatji, while Mrs Mncwabe, Chairperson of Izwe Labafelokazi, was among the key guests who attended the event. Cllr MZ Mbewana delivered the welcome remarks, and Madam Speaker Cllr SM Mbatha-Ntuli delivered the keynote address.The event was also attended by representatives from several government departments and institutions, including Mrs Gugu Ngcobo from Social Development, uMgungundlovu District Municipality, and Hlengiwe Sitole, a coordinator from uMgungundlovu District Municipality.
The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) was represented by Mbali Mtungwa, while the South African Police Service (SAPS), Harburg, was represented by Sgt BM Khanjile and CST A Ndlovu. Nokuthula Ndlovu represented COGTA.The participation of these stakeholders provided women with an opportunity to receive information about government services, community support programmes, safety, civic participation and other resources available to assist them.
The dialogue also encouraged women to take an active role in addressing challenges within their communities and to support one another in building safer, stronger and more empowered families and communities.
The event reinforced the message that empowered women play a vital role in building empowered families, communities and the nation.
