Midvaal Local Municipality has successfully completed the Papegaai Road gravel-to-tar project at a total cost of R12 million. The project commenced in September 2025 and was completed on time and within budget. The scope of the project included mass earthworks, including the excavation, hauling, and compaction of soil and rock to establish stable foundations. We also constructed pavement layers and applied a 30mm-thick asphalt surfacing. The project also included the installation of prefabricated concrete kerbs and edge beams, the construction of traffic-calming speed humps and pedestrian crossings, as well as the installation of road markings and traffic signage. In line with our commitment to create opportunities and local economic development, the project created opportunities for nine SMMEs and seven local labourers, who directly benefited from this project. Midvaal remains committed to investing in the development of its infrastructure and will continue to leverage resources to expand and improve the municipal road network for the benefit of all communities.
