The community of Pienaarspoort Ext 21 (Skierlik) has been switched on after waiting for 16 years. On 2 July 2026, Cllr Frans Boshielo, MMC for Utility Services, and Cllr Eugene Modise, Deputy Executive Mayor and MMC for Finance, rejoiced with community members when the Energy and Electricity Business Unit switched on the first phase of the Electricity for All Project in Region 5.
The Energy and Electricity Business Unit has installed 20 mini substation zones as well as supply feeders in the area that will provide electricity to 1 199 stands once the project is completed.
Phase 1 of the project is complete, with 373 houses energised. Phase 2 is underway and by the end of July 2026, 240 households will be energised. The remaining households will be energised at the end of December 2026.
This project has created 20 job opportunities for the community.
Cllr Modise and Cllr Boshielo thanked the community for their patience throughout the years. They urged community members to pay for their services and not to tamper with the infrastructure or connect illegally as it will affect the City's finances and delivery of services to the community.
