Today, 15 July 2026, the Executive Mayor of Metsimaholo Local Municipality, Cllr Jack Malindi, convened a crucial stakeholder engagement at Thembalethu Hall, Zamdela, bringing together the South African Police Service (SAPS), representatives from the business sector, and other key stakeholders.
The purpose of the meeting was to address growing concerns surrounding illegal immigration and the operation of illegal tuckshops within the municipality. The engagement focused on finding practical, lawful, and collaborative solutions while ensuring that any actions taken do not result in violence or instability within our communities.
Executive Mayor Cllr Malindi emphasized that while communities have legitimate concerns that deserve attention, these issues must be addressed through the rule of law, constructive dialogue, and cooperation with law enforcement agencies, rather than through acts of violence or vigilantism.
The Municipality remains committed to working closely with all relevant stakeholders to promote public safety, protect legitimate businesses, uphold the law, and preserve peace and social cohesion across Metsimaholo.
